General questions
How can I check your status as an ICANN-accredited registrar?
The list of current ICANN-accredited registrars is available at the following ICANN page: http://www.icann.org/registrar-reports/accredited-list.html.
Technical support
How the clients technical support is provided?
We are using a ticket system to support our clients. The system is available at http://danesconames.com/panel/tickets It allows to assign tickets to the responsible manager and to monitor every ticket status.
We do not offer support over phone or instant messengers since this would drastically increase the support department load and lower its effectiveness. Trials and errors we have gone through while managing numerous IT-related projects has proven the ticket system to be most effective.
How long does it take to process a support request?
All support requests are due within one working day. Actually, your request may be processed and answered much faster. In case our manager needs any additional information on your problem he will contact you.
Payment questions
How can I pay for your services?
Currently we accept payments via Credit Cards and PayPal using PayPal billing system. We will inform our clients if we are planning to enable other payment systems.
What currency is used for payments?
All prices listed on the site and all payments for services are in US dollars.
Domain registration
How do I register a domain?
First of all you must be registered as DanescoNames customer. After you have registered take the following steps: Sign in to Control Panel. Choose "Domains" main menu, then click "Search/Register New Domains link to the left.
If you want to register a number of domains at once, use "Bulk Search" feature. Specify a domain name you want to register and click "Search".
If Whois check indicates the desired domain is available, click the "Add to Cart" button to add desired domain extensions to cart.
In Shopping Cart, you may review your order, search for more domains or remove unwanted domains from your shopping cart by clicking the "×" icon. When done, click the "Checkout" button to customize and finalize your order.
You may choose to hide your personal contact details shown in WHOIS public database by adding WHOIS Privacy service (if the chosen domain zone supports this function) for a small additional fee.
You should specify at least 2 DNS (Domain Name Server) servers in order for the domain to work properly. You may use our DNS servers (DanescoNames Default option), or pick the Nameservers of your own.
For your order to be completed you should have sufficient amount of pre-paid funds on your account balance. In case there is not enough funds on your account balance, or this is your first order, you will need to add funds to your account by proceeding to PayPal billing system.
After adding funds to your account via PayPal click "Return to store" link to return to Control Panel and check the list of domains you have just purchased. It may take anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour for your domain names to become available online (dependant on domain name servers you have chosen). Typically, if you used DanescoNames default nameservers, your domain names should become available in around 5 minutes.
What if the domain I want to register is already taken by another person?
By using the WHOIS Database Search feature you may retrieve information about the current domain owner and look up his contact email address. You may address the owner directly using this email and ask the owner whether the domain is for sale.
Generaly, if your desired domain is owned by somebody else you may either come to agreement with the current owner and buy out the domain or wait until the registration period ends. If the current owner doesn't need a domain anymore it may be deleted and become available for the registration.
What is a domain renewal? How can I renew domain automatically?
Depending on a domain extension (zone) you may register a domain for 1 to 10 years period. When the registration period comes to an end, you may renew the domain and prolong its registration by opening the Domains list, selecting the domain name to renew and clicking the "Renew" button.
Currently it is not possible to renew your domains automatically for convenience reasons.
We send periodic email notifications about upcoming domain expiration, starting 30 days prior to the registration period end.
Domain transfer
First of all, we accept domain transfers from another registrars only in the domain extensions (zones), supported by DanescoNames. You may see the full list of supported domain zones in our price lists. Fotransferring domains to DanescoNames you must obtain a security transfer code (so called Auth Code or EPP code) from your current registrar. You may obtain it either in the registrar's control panel or request it from registrar support service.
Ensure that the domain is not locked and remove protection if necessary. Whois service will display TRANSFER LOCK or TRANSFER PROHIBITED domain status in this case. The domain can be transferred if its status is OK or ACTIVE. When the domain is unlocked for transfer and you have the authorization password fr the domain, you may initiate the domain transfer in DanescoNames Control Panel by selecting "Domains" and "Transfer Domain" options respectfully.
When a domain is transferred it is also automatically renewed for 1 year, so please ensure you have sufficient funds on your account balance. For example, if domain expiration date at the current registrar was in year 2011, it will become in 2012 after transfer-in.
The transfer process usually takes up to 6 days of transfer approval process, which is common for most registrars.
DNS servers
What are DNS servers and how do I change them?
DNS (Domain Name Servers, or Nameservers) servers are used for translating domain names into IP-addresses so that the proper site is opened when you type a domain name in browser. At least 2 DNS servers are required for the domain to function properly. Usually, depending on your hosting service, your hosting provider will provide DNS servers names to you.
You may also use DanescoNames DNS servers when registering a domain name. If there are no websites present at your domains, DanescoNames will display the default parking page for your domains ("This domain is parked with DanescoNames" page).
How long does it take for DNS servers to update?
The DNS servers are usually updated within 15 minutes, and the complete change (for the web site to start working from new DNS servers all over the Internet) may take up to 24 hours.
Whois service
What personal details are made available in WHOIS domain information?
When you register a domain, your name, address, phone number and other contact details are made available to anyone via WHOIS domain public directory (WHOIS is the public database of people and organizations, who have registered a domain name). Every registrar's contact details are made publicly available to anyone due to ICANN regulations (the international governing body of Internet domain names).
As a solution to protect your privacy, WhoisProtectService.net registration privacy conceals your domain's public WHOIS record, containing your actual contact and personal information, from common harassments such as spammers, scammers, stalkers, telemarketers, identity thieves and any other third parties who might be using your personal and contact information without your consent.
The following personal details of domain owner are available in public WHOIS database:
- Domain owner's name or organization.
- Domain owner's address, city and country.
- Phone and fax numbers.
- Email address.
How can I hide my personal details from viewing in Whois service?
You may activate the WHOIS Privacy service to conceal your personal contact details from public access. Any WHOIS request will display WhoisProtectService's contact details instead of yours in this case.
Instead of your personal contact information in the public WHOIS database, WhoisProtectService displays its generic email and physical postal address, provided by WhoisProtectService.net. Any email correspondence will be forwarded to the email address of your choice. This service does not interfere with your ownership rights in any way. You remain the legal registrant of your domain names and have full control of them.
This is how WHOIS output looks like with Whois Protect service disabled and enabled:

What is a WHOIS service?
Every registrar's contact details are made publicly available in WHOIS database to anyone due to ICANN regulations (the international governing body of Internet domain names).
WHOIS Search service displays information about a domain owner along with other technical information, such as dates of domain creation and expiry, names of DNS servers, current domain status etc.
Security questions
How can I retrieve my forgotten password?
In case you forgot your password you may obtain it using the password retrieval function. Specify your email you have used during registration and you will be mailed with the link for password reset.
How my confidential information used in domain operations is protected?
We approach client and overall system security at very serious level. The Control Panel works using https protocol, which provides strong data encryption on-the-fly. This ensures that nobody can intercept and decode any information transferred between you and the Control Panel. Thus the information about any of your domain operations and domain names you are checking is kept private and not available for any third parties to obtain. Encrypted connection may be recognized by https:// prefix in your Internet browser's address bar.
You may also set up access controls to limit the IP addresses allowed to sign in into Control Panel under your account name. This will drastically increase your account security. If you are not sure how the allowed IP ranges work, please check with your system administrator or contact our customer support for details. As a safety measure, the system will not alow you to lock yourself out (e.g. if you are currently signed in from specific IP address, you will not be able to lockdown the IP range this address belongs to).
If you suspect that any third party could have gained unauthorized access to your account (for example. the panel operations history log displays unknown IP-addresses and actions which were not done by you), we strongly recommend you to lock your domains to prevent any automated transfer requests and change your account password immediately!
SSL certificates
What is an SSL and how does it protect information?
SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer, is an encryption protocol providing secure online data transfer. While using SSL a secured connection between client and server is maintained. SSL was initially developed by Netscape Communications, and currently is accepted by IETF as an official standard.
SSL uses open key encryption to confirm validity of transmitter and receiver, and supports secure data transfer by using correcting codes and safe hash-functions.
SSL has two levels. In the bottom of multilevel transport protocol (i.e. TCP) there is a recording protocol which is used for encapsulation of various higher-level protocols. For each encapsulated protocol SSL maintains such conditions where client and server can confirm their validity to each other, process encryption algorithms, and exchange encryption keys before application protocol starts to transmit and receive data.
To access the pages secured by SSL HTTPS protocol (port 443) is used instead of common HTTP, and the 'https://' URL prefix assures that there is an SSl-certificate used on the website. To gain SSL advantages there should be an SSL-certificate installed on the server side.
